Welcome to the Coddled Canine blog! I have a desire to offer more content to my Coddled Crew, my customers, so I decided to start a blog. My goal is to create short blog posts with topics that you and I can relate to as dog owners and start conversations. Having a dog can be so rewarding and so demanding at times and I want to create a community where we can grow, learn, and just have fun with each other along our journey. So I'll get right to it!
Tomorrow we start the move. I live in an apartment with my boyfriend and our dog Riley. Riley is the whole motivation for Coddled Canine, but that's another story for another day. Paul is going back to school and so the whole family is moving with him. Anyways, we have been living in our apartment for almost a year. Tomorrow we will pack everything up into a 20-foot-long U-Haul and take it from central NY to central PA. Paul and I are very excited for this change and we have been telling Riley all about it for weeks now but he doesn't really know what is coming. All he hears is, "Want to go in the car?", and he is excited!
I wonder how hard it is for dogs to transition to a new home. I didn't notice Riley acting much different when we moved to our current apartment. He just had to find new favorite places to lay down and hide his treats. But 5 hours in a car and then being in a completely new place from now on must be different for a dog. We will do the best we can to make sure he is as comfortable as can be.
Riley's moving checklist is as follows:
Wolfie (Riley's favorite stuffed animal since birth)
food and water bowls
business bag and poop bags
and of course lots of Greenies and his Oravets!
Our apartment in PA allows dogs (a must when we were searching for a place) and I will have to bring a hundred belly bands to make sure Riley doesn't mark all over his new stomping ground! There is bound to be scents all over the place that will be so enticing for him to mark. I will have to let you know how it goes.
Well, now that I've let you into my mind a little bit, I would love to hear from you! What are your thoughts about moving with your dog? Do you think they mind at all? Does it bother them or might they like all the new scents? Do you have any tips and tricks for moving with your dog? Let me know your thoughts or experiences with relocating with your dog.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
